Emergency Services at the Market Street Mission

A graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Dr. Sukumar Nagendran also completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Sukumar Nagendran serves as the chief medical officer of AveXis. Outside of his professional activities, he is engaged with several charities, including the Market Street Mission.

Market Street Mission is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1889. Located in Morristown, New Jersey, the mission is a faith-based organization that maintains a range of programs to address issues of addiction, homelessness, hunger, and more.

The emergency services program at the mission addresses many basic needs for individuals in the community. To address hunger, the mission provides over 80,000 meals each year. In addition, over 4,500 nights of shelter are provided annually to members of the area’s homeless population. A thrift store run by the organization provides resources such as clothing and basic necessities. The organization does not turn away individuals in need. If a person demonstrates needs that the Market Street Mission cannot address, the person is connected to the community agency that can best address his or her needs.
